Two Faces

A Conversation in Yarn and Ink

The Artwork

Two Faces explores the many identities we carry and the ways they can appear, overlap, and change. The artwork combines richly coiled, swirling forms with a spare ink drawing of Cubist faces created by my son, Jonathan Peel. I shaped the yarn and rope in response to his sketch, creating a collaboration between two generations of artists. Together, the contrasting surfaces suggest the tension between our inner lives and the parts of ourselves we reveal.

The layered colors, textures, and bright orange eyes invite us to look beyond a single point of view. One face may speak to the world, while another holds memory, mystery, or a private truth. Through yarn, rope, and mark-making, Two Faces asks us to consider the selves we show, the selves we protect, and the stories that connect us.
