Wind & Water

The Beauty in Tranquility and Turbulence

The Artwork

This piece is a small tribute to beautiful Torch Lake in Michigan, known for its clear waters and shifting shades of blue.

It began on a July day, surrounded by the lake’s tranquility and the soothing sound of the current lapping the shore — a perfect setting to unwind while I was winding and coiling yarns.

Over night, at 3:30 a.m., I opened the curtains to watch white lightning, wind, and rain pummel the once‑calm lake. For forty minutes, a light show of wind, water, and white skies unfolded. The white lightning lit the sky, creating a supernatural bright‑white wonder while the wind wrapped itself around the water.

In the piece, the blue yarn‑coiled wires rise above the knots, representing the wind lifting the rain and lake to its will. The white elements represent the white lightning, white water, and wind in a marriage of movement.
